Israel has killed a Palestinian artist and visionary entrepreneur along with her husband in an airstrike on their home in the central part of the besieged Gaza Strip.
Walaa Jumaa al-Afranji and Ahmed Saeed Salama were killed in the bombing of their residential apartment south of the Nuseirat refugee camp on Wednesday morning.
The couple were pronounced dead after being taken to the Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.
Afranji was a famous novelist, artist and fashion enthusiast from Gaza City. She had been displaced to the camp in the wake of Israel’s campaign of genocide and ethnic cleansing in October 2023.

Afranji was also a professional calligrapher and artisan, creating handcrafted gifts such as photo frames, key rings and plant pots. She had showcased part of her work on Instagram, grabbing 95,000 followers.
Walaa, known for her cultural and artistic initiatives, sought to revive Gaza's heritage by engraving and painting on stones. Her tragic death has deeply affected youth on social media, honoring her contributions to Gaza’s cultural resilience.
In October, Israel killed Palestinian artist Mahasen al-Khatib in an airstrike on her neighborhood in the northern refugee camp of Jabalia.
Khatib used her talent to defend and advocate human rights and raise awareness about the crimes of Israel.
