The resolution against Israel’s settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories adopted by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has drawn sharp reactions from Tel Aviv. The Israeli regime has called in the ambassadors of ten countries which voted in favor of the resolution. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also blamed Washington for cooperating with Palestinians to push for the adoption of the resolution by refusing to veto it.

A human rights activist believes Israel is afraid that the UNSC resolution against Israeli settlements emboldens the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement worldwide, adding that it has become its “nightmare”.

“Let us make that nightmare come true. Let us push for boycott Israel resolutions in the city councils, let us push for boycott Israel resolutions on every campus and make that nightmare come true,” Blaine Coleman told Press TV in an interview on Monday.

He also expressed hope that this resolution paves the way for legal action against Israel.

However, he opined that this resolution should have demanded a total cut off of all aid to Tel Aviv and an end to diplomatic and trade relations with Israel.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the activist said it would be “foolish” to expect US President-elect Donald Trump and his cabinet to do anything for Palestinians.

He went on to say the only thing that will help Palestinians is a call for a total boycott of Israel to the maximum extent allowed by law in city councils and campuses.

Coleman further stated Israel is making a lot of noise as if it is the victim when in fact it is the occupier and has massacred thousands of Palestinians.

He concluded by saying that the Israeli authorities are the criminals, arguing that they deserve to be tried in The Hague and jailed.

More than half a million Israelis live in over 230 settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the West Bank including East Jerusalem al-Quds. The international community regards the settlements as illegal as they are built on private Palestinian lands. Israel has defied international calls for a halt to its settlement activities.
