Iran men's national futsal team has managed to defeat the vice champion of the 2016 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Futsal World Cup in a friendly match in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.
On Monday evening, the determined Iranian squad got off to a sound start in its encounter against the Russian side at Handball Hall, and earned a 6-4 win against the European contingent.
Forwards Hossein Tayyebi, Ali Asghar Hassanzadeh and Mahdi Javid were on target for the Iranian team during the first half of the exhibition game.
The Russian futsal players sought to level the score just after the interval. The Persians maintained the composure, though, and played with harmony and understanding to clinch the victory.
Forwards Mohammad Reza Sangsefidi, Ahmad Esmaeilpour and Hossein Tayyebi netted a goal each for the Iranian team in the second period.
Earlier in the day, Iran national under-23 futsal team, also known as Iran U-23 or Iran Olympic Team, defeated the Russian team 4-2 in a demonstration.
Iranian futsal players will return to action on Tuesday as they take on their Russian counterparts in their second friendly encounters.
