Iranian powerlifters have started off to a vigorous and impressive campaign at the World Championship Amateur World Powerlifting Congress (AWPC)/ World Champions Cup World Powerlifting Congress (WPC)/World Armlifting Association (WAA) – 2016 in Russia, winning eight gold medals.
Rouzbeh Ja’fari stole the show in the men’s 75-kilogram weight category of the contests in the western Russian city of Kursk.
Mahmoud Omranifar and Hossein Salahuddin also managed to snatch two gold medals in the 125-kilogram and 82.5-kilogram divisions.
Fereydoun Ramezani stood on the top podium in the 82.5-kilogram category of the masters 1 (40-49) class, and picked up the fourth gold medal for the Islamic Republic.
Additionally, Reza Javadi Afshar overcame his opponents in the 125-kilogram division of the masters 1 class, and picked up the yellow metal.
In the 75-kilogram category of masters 3 (60-65) class, Shapour Kakaei outshone his rival and finished first.
Hassan Jalaizadeh and Jabbarali Haji Gholizadeh also claimed the top position in the 90-kilogram masters 2 (50-59) and grandmasters (70+) classes.
The World Championship AWPC /World Champions Cup WPC/WAA – 2016 started in Kursk, Russia, on December 1, and will wrap up on December 4, 2016.
