US and Western media coverage of Russia and Syria consists of virtually nothing but lies, an American writer and political analyst says.
Daniel Patrick Welch told Press TV on Friday that one cannot even “believe a single word, not a single word” coming from the mainstream Western media.
“I was watching Bouthania Shaaban, the media adviser to President Assad, wrestling with a so-called British journalist, and I can’t help but feel touched by the persistence and the pride that Syrian officials show in trying to push back against this monolith, this really brain-dead propaganda machine, that is Western media,” Welch said.
“And the spin is so dangerous and so transparent that it is virtually impossible to have a rational discussion about what’s actually going on,” he stated.
“The US media particularly and its Western vassals on Russia and Syria in particular are just full of absolutely nothing but lies,” he noted.
“And it’s sad to see the treatment of Syrian officials who are fighting for the sovereignty of their country under Western assault, being abused by these talking heads who are nothing more than sock puppets for finance capital, and their paymasters in the editing room,” the analyst said.
‘American foreign policy is pure evil’
Welch said mainstream media outlets are “forcing the public to try to re-work reality to support this foreign policy… basically the foreign policy of the US is pure evil, as close to pure evil as you can get.”
“And in order to believe any of it, to see it for something other than what it is, you have to first swallow the pill of supremacy, you have to succumb to the big lie of American exceptionalism, of America as the indispensable nation, really basically white supremacy,” he observed.
“This is a profoundly racist doctrine that was used to justify the slaughter of natives, and the enslavement of Africans. Slavery and genocide are the two founding themes on which American state was based and on which it built its finance capital,” the analyst explained.
“And in order to believe all this you have to take in that same lie. And it’s all-consuming: You have this ‘need’ to believe that we’re the good guys, always wearing the white hats, and that we can go around and nose into everyone’s business, assault people, insult people, bomb their countries, and yet somehow it is always their own fault,” he stated.
“The US has been trying to stage a coup in Syria as it has against scores -- scores-- of other countries in the past 80 years… for at least 80 years. And they are trying to doctor it up as something else. The problem is that it is all across the political spectrum. The Democrats are at least as culpable as the Republicans, so you don’t have anywhere to go,” the writer noted.
