- Israel's air force says it has bombed three positions of the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli military said the attacks were in response to a rocket fired from Gaza. Israel has carried out similar attacks on Gaza over the past months leaving four Palestinians wounded.
- 35 Members of the United Nations Human Rights Council along with the EU members have slammed the Bahraini regime for its crackdown on dissent. They called for all-out reforms to bring stability to the Persian Gulf kingdom. Manama has harshly repressed protests against the Al Khalifa regime since 2011.
- The UN refugee agency has called on the international community to focus on the education of refugee children as a fundamental matter. The UN said that over three-point-seven million children have no access to schools .This comes as UK-based charity War Child has also raised the alarm over the situation of displaced children.
- A train collision in Pakistan has left at least six people dead and over one-hundred and fifty injured. The crash occurred near city of Multan in Punjab province. Local officials say a passenger train rammed into a freight train which had stopped after running over a man crossing the railway track.
- Iran’s envoy to the UN Gholamali Khoshroo has warned about the surge in violence and the emergence of new terrorist groups in Afghanistan. Khoshroo also expressed concern over the appearance of Daesh offshoots in Afghanistan. He also stressed that any cooperation with Taliban militants would hinder peace across Afghanistan.
- Brazil’s former president Lula de Silva has rejected charges of involvement in a graft scandal involving state oil company Petrobras. Lula’s lawyer said prosecutors lack evidence to back up their accusations. However, prosecutors believe the corruption could not have happened without Lula’s involvement.
- 22 NGOs have called on Hungarians to boycott an upcoming referendum on the relocation of refugees. They are campaigning to cancel the referendum. In October, Hungarians are expected to decide whether to support the EU quota plan which aims to tackle the refugee crisis.
- Police in the US state of Florida have detained a man named Joseph Schreiber on charges of setting fire to a mosque. Officials say the suspect was arrested following a tip off and the case is being prosecuted as a hate crime.
