Israeli forces arrest 10 Palestinians in West Bank

Israeli forces have arrested at least 10 Palestinians in separate raids across the occupied West Bank.

The Israeli forces raided the towns of Beit Ummar and Beit Awwa near the city of al-Khalil (Hebron), and the village of Umm al-Sharayet near the city of Ramallah as well as the town of Tamun on Sunday night and early on Monday, Lebanon’s al-Ahed news website reported.

A total of ten people were arrested in the raids.

In recent months, Israeli forces have frequently raided the houses of Palestinians in the West Bank, arresting dozens of people, who are then transferred to Israeli prisons, where they are kept without any charges.

On August 17, Israeli forces arrested a number of Palestinians, including a lawmaker and a Hamas official, across the West Bank. Those arrests came one day after Israeli officials issued 38 new “administrative detention” orders against Palestinian detainees, including a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council.

There are currently 7,000 Palestinians being held at Israeli jails and detention facilities, seven lawmakers being among them. Three Palestinian Legislative Council members are in “administrative detention,” according to the Palestinian prisoners’ rights group Addameer.

The so-called Administrative detention is a sort of imprisonment without trial or charge that allows Israel to incarcerate Palestinians for periods of up to six months, which can be renewed an infinite number of times.

Some prisoners have been held in administrative detention for up to eleven years.

Palestinian inmates regularly hold hunger strikes in protest at both the administrative detention policy and their harsh prison conditions.

Reports said Palestinians jailed in Israeli jails have been subjected to different types of torture by Israeli officials during detention and interrogation.

The occupied Palestinian territories have been the scene of heightened tensions since August 2015, when Israel imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem al-Quds.
