- Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has held talks with his Venezuelan counterpart, Delcy Eloina Rodrigues Gomes. During the meeting in the Iranian capital Tehran, the two sides expressed their willingness to further strengthen economic and political ties.
- At least 15 civilians have been killed in Saudi airstrikes on a hospital in Yemen’s Hajjah province. The hospital was run by Doctors Without Borders. This came 48 hours after another deadly air raid on a school. Nearly 9,600 Yemenis have died in the Saudi war since 2015.
- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghassemi has strongly denounced the Saudi airstrikes on schools and hospitals in Yemen as a quote-blatant crimes against humanity. Ghassemi says the Saudi attacks are the result of the deafening silence of the international organizations including the UN which has further emboldened Riyadh.
- Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov has rejected Germany’s call for a ceasefire longer than the current three hours daily to allow humanitarian aid into the Syrian city of Aleppo. Lavrov says terrorists fighting against the Syrian government have used the cease-fires to regroup and rearm themselves.
- Iraqi Kurdish forces have pushed Daesh Takfiri terrorists out of a dozen villages near the flashpoint city of Mosul over the past couple of days. They have also secured a strategic river crossing point which has helped them tighten their grip further on Mosul.
- Israel has announced plans to grab more Palestinian land in a village near the town of Bethlehem in order to build some 2,500 settler units there. Palestinian officials have strongly reacted to the decision, warning that it would split the occupied territory in two.
- Devastating floodwaters have swamped the US state of Louisiana, killing at least six people and forcing tens of thousands to flee their homes. A state of emergency has already been declared and rescuers are working round the clock to evacuate more people to safety.
- Zambia’s election panel says incumbent president Edgar Lungu has been re-elected in a closely contested vote. Lungu garnered just over 50 percent threshold needed to secure victory and avoid a runoff. Opposition parties, however, rejected the results, alleging irregularities and vote rigging.
