The national Iranian workers’ wrestling team has ended its campaign at the third edition of the International Wrestling Tournament for Workers in Germany with commendable and gripping displays of skill, and finished as the vice-champion in the international sporting event.
Mehdi Elmi, who had earlier overcome his Afghan, Hungarian and Turkish opponents in the march to the last contest of men’s 65-kilogram category, overwhelmed an athlete from the host nation in the final contest and clinched the yellow metal, Amateur Federation of Workers’ Sport of the Islamic Republic of Iran website reported.
Ebrahim Valian also emerged triumphant in the final of the men’s 75-kilogram section to notch up Iran’s second gold medal.
Hadi Ghadimi pulled off the third gold for the national Iranian workers’ wrestling team in the 95-kilogram weight category.
The third edition of the International Wrestling Tournament for Workers began in Stuttgart, Germany, on July 9, and finished the next day.
The national Iranian workers’ wrestling team earned 30 points to claim the second position. Turkey was named the top-ranked team at the end of the tournament with 34 points.
The sports event brought together wrestlers from Afghanistan, Argentina, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Switzerland and Turkey.
Mehdi Elmi, Ebrahim Valian, Hadi Ghadimi and Alireza Jahanian represented the Islamic Republic of Iran during the two-day-long tournament.
