China not to accept any ruling on South China Sea

Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • The Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution says it’s a duty for all Muslims to defend the rights of the Palestinian people. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the remark as Muslims across the world are gearing up for the International Quds Day, the last Friday of the fasting month of Ramadan.
  • Israeli forces have shot dead a Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank. The incident occurred in a settlement near the city of al-Khalil also known as Hebron. Israelis say the Palestinian man stabbed two settlers, one of them in serious condition.
  • Prominent Bahraini rights activist Nabeel Rajab has been transferred from a military hospital to prison again, despite his deteriorating health condition. Rajab is scheduled to stand trial on July 12 for criticizing the Bahraini regime’s prison system and its involvement in the Saudi war on Yemen.
  • A bomb attack on the outskirts of Afghanistan’s capital has left at least 30 people dead. The first explosion destroyed a bus carrying police trainees. Later a second bomber rammed his explosives-laden car into the vehicle of the rescuers. Taliban have claimed responsibility for the bombings.
  • A roadside bomb has hit a minibus just outside Somalia's capital Mogadishu, killing at least eight people and injuring several others. The blast in the Somali city of Lafole was so powerful that it tore the minibus apart. No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing.
  • A fire in India’s western metropolitan city of Mumbai has claimed the lives of at least eight people including five children. The fire broke out in a medical store and then engulfed residential areas in Mumbai’s Andheri district. The victims were asleep when the fire spread to their houses.
  • China says it will reject any ruling by a UN-backed Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in a case brought by the Philippines. Beijing says it will not accept any solution imposed on it. Manila has lodged a suit against China, contesting its claim to about 90 percent of the South China Sea.
  • An estimated 8,000 Argentineans have rallied in Buenos Aires against hikes in energy and electricity prices. The Demonstrators wore blankets and carried candles to slam the energy policies introduced by President Mauricio Macri's government. Macri insists higher prices are essential to ensure the health of the economy.
