EU experiment has been dismal failure: Analyst

Press TV has interviewed Mike Harris, financial editor of Veterans Today in Oregon, about UK Prime Minister David Cameron warning of abject "humiliation" for Britain if the country decides to leave the European Union (EU) in a referendum to be held later this week.

A rough transcription of the interview appears below.

Press TV: David Cameron is making some last-minute desperate pleas to get Britons to vote to stay in the European Union. Do you think he will win these voters over?

Harris: Well I do not think so and I hope not because you look at the whole EU experiment and it really has been an experiment and it has been a dismal failure. It has not benefited the people of the EU at all, it has hurt them and we look at the suffering and the economic chaos that is going on in Greece; look at Italy, look at Portugal, look at Ireland, all of these countries have suffered some very, very dramatic financial and economic effects because of being in the EU and I would welcome the people of Britain to exit as soon as they possibly can. There is a great loss whenever a nation, a sovereign people gives up their sovereignty and the right to control their borders, the right to print their own currencies, the right to govern themselves without outside interference. It was a nice experiment but it has failed.

Press TV: The Leave camp has actually led at various times in the polls and their compelling argument is mostly built on the refugee influx but it seems like your argument is different ... am I correct?

Harris: Yes it is. Mine is basically financial. The financial benefits have been to two or three of the larger countries. Germany has had some benefits from it, France has had some benefits from it but the majority of the countries have not. They have been suffering abjectly within the confines of the EU. They cannot adjust their policy for currency, they cannot devalue, they cannot revalue. There are a number of things that the governments have really been hamstrung in their ability to respond to the financial crisis, the financial needs of their country and their people.

Press TV: How much has the Brexit referendum shaken up European leaders in your point of view?

Harris: I think it has shaken up European leaders and more importantly it has shaken up corporate and banking leaders because they were counting on the unity of the EU to continue for some time. Look at who the EU really benefits, it benefits the globalists, the corporate globalists out there who are trying to stick to one framework for all countries around the world, it is not what the sovereign people of the world want.

People want to be able to steer their own ships, so to speak, the sovereign people does and the corporations are all about profit, they are all about money. There are a number of things coming their way that are going to upset the globalist agenda because everything they have told us nothing has come to fruition. None of the benefits that they presented have ever materialized.
