Iran moves up three places in latest FIFA rankings

The national Iranian football team has climbed three places to the 39th spot in the May edition of the world rankings of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

According to the latest monthly rankings released by the world’s soccer governing body on Thursday, the Iranian team collected 688 points and maintained its position as the best Asian soccer team.

Other Asian teams included South Korea, which climbed four places to sit in the 50th slot with 603 points, followed by the Japanese and Australians, who claimed the 53rd and 59th spots respectively with 581 and 563 points.

Argentina remains the top-ranked soccer team in the world with 1,503 points.

Belgium earned 1,384 points to claim the second position while third-place Colombia accumulated 1,328 points. Germany stands fourth with 1,310 points.
