National Iranian men’s para-taekwondo team has demonstrated impressive displays of athletic skills and prowess at the second edition of Asian Para-Taekwondo Championships in the Philippines, and finished in the first place.
On Monday, Iran’s Mohsen Abdi, who had earlier overcome his Russian opponent as well as his compatriot Asghar Azizi in the march to the last contest of men’s over 75-kilogram category, could not show up for the final encounter in the Philippine capital city of Manila due to injuries he sustained earlier in the tournament, and settled for silver.
Mehdi Pourrahnama routed his Russian rival 6-3 in the final of the men’s minus 75-kilogram section to snatch Iran’s first gold medal.
In the minus 61-kilogram weight category, Sajjad Javanbakht conceded a 3-15 loss to his Mongolian rival, and pulled off the second silver medal for Iran.
Mahmoud Ja’farzadeh and Saeed Sadeqiyanpour also stole the show in the men’s minus 75-kilogram and minus 61-kilogram weight divisions respectively, and added two more gold medals to Iran’s tally at the sporting event.
Ahmad Narimani sustained a 2-5 defeat from his Kazakh opponent in the last contest of men’s over 75-kilogram category and received a silver medal.
Earlier on Monday, Azizi picked up a bronze medal in the men’s over 75-kilogram section.
