Iranian athletes have clinched two medals, including one gold, in the 4th edition of the Fujairah Open 2016 in the United Arab Emirates.
On Wednesday, the second day of the tournament, at Sheikh Khalifa Hall, 21-year-old Iranian taekwondo player Armin Hadipour Seighalani, who was given a bye in his first challenge in the first round of men’s minus 58-kilogram weight class, defeated representatives from Hong Kong, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan (35-1, 4-0 and 13-1 respectively), and booked a berth in the final showdown.
He outmuscled Irish opponent Jack Woolley 9-0 in his last contest, and earned the gold medal. The Iranian gold medalists also added 20 points to his world ranking.
The achievement came only a few days after Hadipour Seighalani scooped up a gold medal in the Aquece Rio International Taekwondo Championships (WTF G1), commonly known as the Rio 2016 taekwondo test event, in Brazil.
Earlier on Wednesday, another Iranian taekwondo practitioner, Seyed Ahmad Khosrowfar, conceded bitter defeat against Seif Eissa, and lost 8-0 to the 17-year-old Egyptian rival.
The 4th edition of the Fujairah Open 2016 started in the United Arab Emirates on February 23, and will wrap up on February 25, 2016.
