US elections turned into glorified reality TV: Pundit

Press TV has interviewed Anthony Hall, professor at University of Lethbridge, about US Secretary of State John Kerry criticizing the chaos in America’s presidential campaign, saying it “is an embarrassment to our country.”

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: How do you feel about Secretary Kerry’s comments?

Hall: Well Secretary Kerry of course is part of a vast Islamophobia industry that thrives after 9/11 on this psychological operation that wants people in the West to have hatred towards Muslims, to identify Muslims with kind of terror.

At the extremes of the Islamophobia industry are the Iranophobia industry and of course Kerry did make negotiations on behalf of the Obama administration on the nuclear deal, on the sanctions deal, so he is in a way in a position to point at the extremists in the Republican Party, the real neo-cons and Cruz is a real neo-con who is in the plot, the Israeli center plot of really building up Islamophobia to the maximum and really going against US interests in the world.

Kerry is along this same trajectory but he is making a good point to point at Trump. Trump is kind of a wild card and he scares the neo-cons, the Israeli centric Likudnik neo-cons. Trump is not liked by these people. They want Hillary Clinton but Cruz is in line with this extreme neo-con Zionist American agenda.

Press TV: So I am wondering at this point when we look to the actual elections, do you think somebody like Trump or Cruz can actually win and what does that mean then for Muslims for example in the United States?

Hall: Well I do not think we can underestimate Trump’s possible attractiveness. He after all is a reality TV guy and unfortunately the US elections have descended to the point where it is kind of glorified reality TV.

So he could through his understanding of the television media, get the top job and it seems to me he is all over the map really. I mean he does speak about wanting to be a neutral party in negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis and that is of course why the neo-cons are very frightened of him, they like Hillary Clinton better.

So Trump is a wild card. Cruz is not a wild card. Cruz is really dangerous and so is Trump. He is more your garden-variety, right-wing American psychopath, I guess you have to say.
