US Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump has threatened court action against the ‘crooked’ GOP system over its awarding of delegates in the Louisiana Primary.
Trump on Sunday lashed out at the party policy over the way delegates are being awarded.
The business mogul had won the popular vote in Louisiana’s March 5 contest, bagging 124,818 votes to 113,949 for Texas Senator Ted Cruz, 33,805 for Florida Senator Marco Rubio who later dropped out of the race for the party’s presidential nomination, and 19,355 for Ohio governor John Kasich.
The Republican Party primarily gave Cruz and Trump 18 delegates each, with five going to Rubio.
However, The Wall Street Journal reported recently that Rubio’s delegates will probably go to Cruz along with five unbound delegates as party leaders struggle to keep Trump from gaining the 1,237 delegates needed to secure the GOP nomination.
“Just to show you how unfair Republican primary politics can be, I won the state of Louisiana and get less delegates than Cruz - Lawsuit coming.” Trump tweeted Sunday, threatening to sue over the issue.
Earlier in the day, he told ABC’s ‘This Week’ program that the Republican system was “crooked” and “rotten.”
“I have millions of votes more than Lyin’ Ted Cruz and he’s trying to steal things,” Trump said. “What’s going on in the Republican Party is a disgrace.”
Hours after Trump threatened lawsuit over Louisiana's delegate headcount, the state's executive director of the GOP said the contender must take up any dispute he has with Louisiana's delegate rules with either Marco Rubio or his delegates.
Trump currently leads his rivals in the delegate count. He has 739 to 465 for Cruz and 143 for Kasich.
