Medical authorities say a young Palestinian man shot and critically injured by Israeli regime forces during a raid on a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank two weeks ago has died of his wounds.
Nahid Fawzi Imteir succumbed to his injuries at Hadassah Medical Center in al-Quds (Jerusalem) on Tuesday.
Imteir was one of at least 12 Palestinians that were wounded early on March 1, when Israeli soldiers and special forces raided Qalandiya refugee camp, located 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) north of al-Quds, and clashed with Palestinian youths.
The violence escalated after a gun battle erupted between some residents of the camp and Israeli forces, which went on for hours.
Israeli forces fired tear gas canisters intensively, and used live ammunitions against the homes of Palestinians.
A 22-year-old Palestinian man, identified as Iyad Omar Sajdiyah, sustained gunshot wounds to his head, and subsequently died.
Tensions have heightened in the occupied Palestinian territories due to Israel’s imposition in August 2015 of restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East al-Quds.
Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in Islam after Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and Masjid al-Nabawi in Medina.
Nearly 200 Palestinians, including children and women, have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces since the beginning of last October.
