Vote counting is underway in Iran following the Assembly of Experts and parliamentary elections on Friday. Electoral officials have said the turnout has been around 33 million and that the figure is expected to increase.
Nearly 55 million people were eligible to cast their ballots in the two key elections. Over 4800 candidates ran for parliamentary seats while 159 contestants vied for a place in the Assembly of Experts. The assembly is tasked with choosing a leader for the country.
