At least eleven people have been fatally shot at a birthday party in southern Mexico, authorities say.
The incident occurred on Friday at a teenager's 15th birthday party in the Mexican state of Guerrero, said governor Hector Astudillo.
"There was a problem at a 15th birthday party, and according to the information we have, 11 people were killed," Astudillo told AFP on Sunday without giving any additional details.
The authorities found seven bodies in Guerrero on Friday. All the bodies showed signs of torture, with their hands and feet tied and a bullet wound to the head.
Guerrero has become one of the deadliest and most dangerous states in Mexico. It has been the scene of drug-related abductions and homicides.
A total of 324 homicides, all of them related to organized crime and drug cartels, were reported in the state in just two months between October and December last year, according to official figures.
Guerrero is also the state where 43 students went missing in September 2014 in the city of Iguala, after being attacked by police forces linked to drug gangs.
The students are believed to have been slaughtered and burnt at a trash dump by the gang members, according to the government, whose account of the incident has been rejected as sloppy by the victims’ relatives and independent observers.
