Israeli forces shot and killed another Palestinian on Sunday after alleging that the victim opened fire on the Tel Aviv regime’s soldiers.

According to Palestinian media reports, the shooting took place at an Israeli military checkpoint outside the illegal settlement of Beit El in the occupied West Bank, near Ramallah City.

Israeli sources claimed that three soldiers were injured in the purported attack, two of them critically.

The latest shooting comes amid rising tensions in the occupied territories over the past few months.

Israeli authorities on Saturday seized two Palestinian minors accusing them of carrying out a stabbing attack in al-Quds.

In August last year, restrictions were imposed on Palestinian worshipers visiting the holy al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East al-Quds, prompting the fury of the Palestinians.

Palestinians are also angry over Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians and their properties in the occupied territories and repeated desecration of the al-Aqsa compound by extremist settlers, who are usually accompanied by Israeli military forces.

The killing brought to at least 166 the number of Palestinians, including women and children, killed by Israeli forces since October 2015. Nearly 30 Israelis have also been killed during this period.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has expressed concern over the excessive use of force by Israeli police and “extrajudicial killing” of Palestinians by Israeli forces. The UN body says that circumstances leading to several of the Palestinian deaths remain vague.
