Iranian female athlete Parisa Arab finished as won the silver medal in the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2016 in the United Arab Emirates.

Arab participated in the women’s 10K road race on the Umm Suqeim Road in Dubai on Friday, and clocked 37.03 minutes to emerge as the runner-up and land in the second spot, ISNA reported on Sunday.

The 10K road race, also known as 10 km or simply 10K, is a long-distance road running competition, where participants compete over a distance of ten kilometers (6.2 miles). It is one of the most common types of road running event together with half marathon and marathon, and normally attracts high levels of public participation.

The popularity of 10K races lie in the fact that the distance is long enough for most adults to represent a challenge, but short enough to remain accessible for an untrained runner.

Members of the public would take part in the races as a competition or simply for pleasure. Some races also allow wheelchair racers to enter.

The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2016 was held on January 22, 2016.

While marathon and 10km road race competitions were held on the Umm Suqeim Road and in the shadow of the iconic Burj al-Arab hotel, the 4 km Fun Run was staged on al-Wasl Road.
