Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi says Iran’s firm political stance and its military advisory presence in Syria have played a key role in Damascus’ victories against terrorists.

Iran’s solid political position on regional and global developments, the presence of its military advisors and its all-out support, including economic and medical aid, have helped Syria achieve victories against terrorists, Halaqi said in a meeting with Iranian Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi in Damascus on Thursday.

He added that the Islamic Republic has always stood sincerely by the Syrian government and people, IRNA reported.

The Syrian premier expressed hope that broad cooperation among Iran, Russia, Syria and the Lebanese resistance would speed up the pace of victories against terrorist groups in Syria.

He said the Israeli regime, the US as well as some regional countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey and Qatar, had tried to inflict damage on the Syrian government and nation through terrorists but Damascus managed to foil all such attempts in cooperation with its allies.

Iran has sent military advisers to Syria to contribute to the Arab country’s fight against terrorists wreaking havoc in the conflict-stricken country.

The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has thus far claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people and left over one million injured, according to the United Nations.

Moscow also launched airstrikes against Daesh and other terrorist groups in Syria on September 30, 2015 upon a request from the Damascus government.

Hashemi, for his part, said Iran and Syria have always supported each other and are determined to improve mutual cooperation.

He added that Tehran would spare no efforts to help the Syrian government and people.

Iran-Syria health cooperation

In another meeting with Syrian Health Minister Nizar Yazigi in Damascus on Thursday, Hashemi said Iran would make all-out efforts to support Syria and help it resolve the ongoing crisis in the country.

He added that Iran will continue its long-term strategy to export Iranian-made medicines and medical equipment to Syria to meet the needs of the Syrian people.

Yazigi said the Syrian Health Ministry will work on removing obstacles in the way of boosting health and medical cooperation with Iran.

Meanwhile, in a meeting between Hashemi and Syrian Higher Education Minister Mohammad Amer Mardini, the two sides discussed cooperation in the fields of research, education and exchange of experts.
