Kashmiris condemn Saudi execution of top Shia cleric

  1. People in Saudi Arabia have staged a rally to condemn the execution of prominent Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr. The protesters in Eastern Province are marching from the town of Awamiyah to Qatif. Saudi forces have beefed up security in Qatif.
  2. Demonstrators in the Indian-controlled Kashmir have held protests in condemnation of the Saudi execution of the top Shia cleric. People in Bahrain have staged similar rallies in Abu-Saiba village, west of the capital Manama. Bahraini regime forces fired tear gas at the protesters.
  3. Saudi Arabia’s execution of Sheikh Nimr has sparked an outcry in Iran. Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian described the move as inhumane and irresponsible. Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps has strongly condemned the execution, warning that Riyadh would pay the price for the move.
  4. EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini has reacted to Saudi Arabia’s execution of prominent Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr. Mogherini says it raises serious concerns regarding freedom of expression and the respect of basic civil and political rights. She also warned that the execution could have dangerous consequences for the entire region.
  5. Amnesty International says the killing of Sheikh Nimr has been politically-motivated. The London-based rights body has noted that Riyadh uses the guise of counter-terrorism to clamp down on political dissent. The rights group also said Saudi rulers are seeking to silence criticism among Shia activists.
  6. Fresh Saudi airstrikes on Yemen’s Sa’ada province have claimed the lives of at least seven people. The attack came hours after Riyadh officially announced that a week-long ceasefire with Yemen would no longer be in effect. Over 74-hundred Yemenis have been killed in the Saudi attacks since last March.
  7. Daesh Takfiri terrorists have attacked Iraqi security forces on the outskirts of the city of Ramadi with seven car bombs. Army sources reported casualties among government troops. The Iraqi army liberated Ramadi from Daesh on Sunday following weeks of intense fighting with the terrorists.
  8. Palestinians in the city of al-Khalil also known as Hebron have held a funeral ceremony to mourn the deaths of the victims of Israeli atrocities in the West Bank. Israeli forces have released the bodies of 23 Palestinians, mostly killed during the recent spate of violence.
