Controversial Riyadh talks on Syria

1. Riyadh talks on Syria

Saudi Arabia hosted a controversial meeting on the crisis in Syria. Participants in the meeting were several Syrian opposition leaders as well as representatives of a series of terrorist groups. The meeting drew immediate criticisms from Iran and Russia, who said it would undermine the international diplomatic efforts to resolve the multi-year crisis in Syria.

2. Turkey’s Iraq Incursion

Criticisms are rising in Baghdad against Turkey’s decision to deploy troops to the northern parts of Iraq. Ankara has defended the move and says it is in line with efforts to help Iraq in the fight against the terrorists. This has been met with serious skepticism because Turkey has already been facing allegations that it supports the same terrorists that it says it wants to fight against.

3. Trump’s endless gaffes

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has provoked international anger by calling for a ban on Muslims from entering the United States. But Trump is not alone in his racist attitudes toward Muslims. Polls show a majority of Americans hold unfavorable attitude toward Muslims.
