Shooting reported at Walmart in Pennsylvania, 1 person injured

A gunman walked into a Walmart with an assault-type weapon and handgun, ordering shoppers to leave.

A man carrying a number of weapons has entered a Walmart in the US state of Pennsylvania and one person has been shot, authorities say.

The shooting happened at East Stroudsburg on Saturday night around 10:15 pm, but so far few details have been released.

According to WNEP Channel 16, the gunman, in his 20s, walked into the mall with an assault-type weapon and handgun ordering shoppers to leave.

Police in Coolbaugh Township said officers have "secured the scene," and that "there is no known further risk to the public."

According to CNN, the injured person was the gunman himself, who was shot, but it is not clear who shot the man.

The incident followed the recent mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, which was the worst in the US in three years.

Fourteen people were killed and 21 injured in the attack at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino on December 2.

That shooting came only days after a gunman killed three people at an abortion clinic in Colorado.

Other high-profile mass shootings have occurred in a six-month span in Charleston, South Carolina and Lafayette, Louisiana, as well as in Roanoke, Virginia.

This is while gun dealers are reporting surging sales, with customers saying they want to keep guns and rifles at hand for self-defense in the event of such attacks.

More than 12,550 people have been killed in the US by firearms so far this year, and over 25,000 people injured, according to Gun Violence Archive.

So far this year, there have been more than 350 mass shootings in the United States, in which four or more people were wounded or killed, according to the crowd-sourced website Shooting Tracker, which keeps a running tally of US gun violence.
