Donald Trump's comments echo evil US political system: Activist

This anti-Muslim sentiment in the US “underscores how sick and dysfunctional and evil the political system in America has become,” Glenn said.

US presidential candidate Donald Trump’s comments about Muslims are “reprehensible” and echo the sentiment of the “evil” political system of the United States, an American interfaith activist says.

Trump, the leading candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, called Monday for barring Muslims from entering the US, his latest in a series of bigoted remarks about Muslims and non-European immigrants on the campaign trail.

“Trump is only saying out in the open what all of our politicians from both sides of the isle are unwilling to say but which they are perfectly willing to engage in in practical terms,” said Mark Glenn, the co-founder of the Crescent and Cross Solidarity Movement.

US President Barack Obama “is singularly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Muslims” in countries like Syria, Iraq, Libya and Palestinian territories, Glenn said in an interview with Press TV on Wednesday.

Many of the US presidential candidates from both political parties have promised to “murder” Muslims around the world if they are voted to the White House, he added.

This anti-Muslim sentiment in the US government “underscores how sick and dysfunctional and evil the political system in America has become,” Glenn noted.

“We have certain sections of the population and of the political class who allow themselves to get worked up into a fervor over comments made by Donald Trump, in the meantime, their government is actively going around the world and killing these innocent people for things they have never done and will never do,” he said.

Trump, whose campaign has been marked by controversy from the beginning, stood by his anti-Muslim proposal on Tuesday, saying it was a temporary move in response to last week’s mass shooting in San Bernardino, California.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Tuesday that Trump’s proposal on barring Muslims from entry into the US “disqualifies” him from presidency.
