At least six people have sustained injuries after a spate of bomb explosions targeted a Hindu gathering in northern Bangladesh, police sources say.
Abdul Mazid, a local police officer, told Reuters that the bombs exploded outside Kantajew Temple on Saturday as hundreds of Hindus attended the religious ceremony of Rush Mela in the Dinajpur district, located 415 kilometers (260 miles) north of the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka.
Mazi also said that three out of those hurt in Saturday’s blasts were in critical condition, adding five people had been taken into custody for questioning over the attacks.
The officer further noted that the explosions followed threats to the temple’s priest, calling on him not to arrange any religious gatherings.
The incident came less than a month after an Italian priest was shot in Dinajpur.
Recently, an Italian aid worker and a Japanese farmer were also shot dead in Bangladesh. The attacks were both claimed by the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group.
Over the past two years, militant groups have targeted Muslims, Hindus and Christians in the South Asian state.
On October 24, a bomb attack rocked Hussaini Dalan, the most important prayer and congregation site for Bangladesh’s minority Shia community in Dhaka. The incident left at least one person dead and dozens of others injured.
