Iraqi government forces backed by military aircraft have carried out successful clean-up operations against the Daesh terrorist group in the conflict-stricken Arab country, inflicting heavy losses on the Takfiri militants.

On Wednesday, dozens of Daesh extremists were killed when Iraqi fighter jets launched precision strikes against terrorist positions in the region of al-Jazeera, which lies east of Ramadi, the capital of Anbar Province, as well as the al-Tarabshah, Qaryat Albu Asaf and Tal Aswad districts, the Arabic-language al-Sumaria satellite television network reported.

The commander of the al-Jazeera and al-Baadia Operations, Major General Ali Ibrahim Daboun, also said Iraqi troops mounted an offensive in the conflict-ridden western city of Khan al-Baghdadi, situated about 180 kilometers (110 miles) northwest of the capital, Baghdad, killing ten Daesh militants in the process. As many as 27 improvised explosive devices were later defused.

Separately, thirteen Daesh Takfiris were killed when Iraqi army troops supported by security personnel conducted a joint operation in Husaybah, situated seven kilometers (4.5 miles) east of Ramadi. Iraqi government forces also destroyed four militant hideouts.

Additionally, a Daesh militant commander, identified by the nom de guerre Abu Saif al-Suri, and ten of his comrades were killed when Iraqi warplanes struck the Makhoul Mountains, which lie 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) north of the provincial capital city of Tikrit, in the northern province of Salahuddin.

Gruesome violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since Daesh Takfiris launched their terrorist activities in June 2014, and took control of portions of Iraqi territory.

The militants have been committing vicious crimes against all ethnic and religious communities in Iraq, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and others.

Army soldiers, backed by Popular Mobilization Units, are seeking to take back militant-held regions in joint operations.
