As Washington’s interests in Syria, where Daesh is wreaking havoc, are “diametrically opposed” to those of Moscow, Secretary of State John Kerry’s praise for Russia’s engagement against the Takfiris mean “exactly the opposite,” an analyst says.
Kerry said earlier on Wednesday that the US welcomes Russia’s “engagement in the Syria process,” calling the country an “extremely constructive and important player in reaching a solution” in Syria.
“It means exactly the opposite,” Daniel Patrick Welch told Press TV. “Their interests in Syria are diametrically opposed to Syria’s and to Russia’s.”
The US seeks “nothing short of the destruction” of the war-ravaged country by toppling the “legitimate, recognized government of Syria,” he added.
“They have always wanted that and they’ve used the Arab death squad for years.”
The US objectives in the crisis-hit country are, however, going “down in flames, said he political commentator, further describing the situation as an “absolute failure” for the US, which has been at the head of a so-called coalition allegedly against Daesh militants.
Russia which has entered the anti-ISIL war in support of the Syrian government more recently, has managed to push back the terrorists by bombarding their positions.
