Iran men’s national handball team has failed to secure a place in the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics after a loss against Qatar in the final showdown of the 2015 Asian Qualification Tournament for the Olympic Games.
On Friday, the Iranian squad began the game played at the Duhail Handball Sports Hall in Doha, Qatar, on a high note and proved their dominance for most of the first period.
Qatar, which set an unparalleled record for the most foreign players on a team roster, showed it had no qualms about bowing out, and managed to establish the lead and surge ahead.
The Qatari handball players could finally steal the show and assert themselves as the better team of the final Asian qualifying match for the Rio Olympic Games. They got past the Persians 28-19 at last.
Earlier in the day, Bahrain defeated South Korea 34-21 in the third-place playoff match.
The 2015 Asian Qualification Tournament for the 2016 Summer Olympics started in Doha on November 14 and finished on November 27. Qatar, as the winner of the tournament, qualified for the handball event on the 2016 Summer Olympics.
