The Secretary of Tennis Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran says his country will host fifteen Futures tournaments next year as part of preparations for international sporting events.
Kamyar Kimiaei said the city of Tabriz in northwestern Iran, city of Isfahan in central Iran, Kish Island in the Persian Gulf as well as the capital Tehran have already put in their bids to host the competitions.
Kimiaei further noted that Iran’s national Davis Cup team is planning to attend a number of international tournaments, and is currently training hard to produce favorable results in the games.
Iran will stage the 2016 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group III events at the Enghelab Sport Complex in Tehran next summer.
Cambodia, Lebanon, Hong Kong, Singapore, Syria and Turkmenistan are scheduled to contest in the tournament.
The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's lawn tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested annually in a knock-out format. Iran competed in its first Davis Cup in 1962.
