Iran’s Arabdi garners silver in world wushu championships

Iranian wushu fighter Farshad Arabi

Iranian wushu practitioner Farshad Arabi has demonstrated a brilliant performance at the 13th edition of World Wushu Championships in Indonesia, and collected a silver medal.

On Monday, Arabi got 9.65 points to grab the silver in the Nandao form of Taolu competitions in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta.

The young Iranian athlete trailed Ho Mun Hua from Malaysia, who managed to accumulate 9.67 points.  Po Wei Lai, a competitor from Chinese Taipei, racked up 9.63 points to stand behind Arabi.

Nandao is a kind of sword that is used mostly in contemporary Chinese wushu exercises and forms.

Nandao is mostly used two-handed due to its larger amount of weight as compared to the "northern broadsword", or Beidao. It also has a large metal cross guard useful in deflecting blows and hooking the opponent's weapon.

The 13th edition of World Wushu Championships opened in Jakarta, Indonesia, on November 11th, and will conclude on 18th.
