White House says two-state solution not likely under President Obama

1. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned that the next round of talks on Syria must not focus on calls for President Bashar al-Assad's resignation. Speaking on a trip to Armenia, Lavrov said the Vienna meeting must instead focus on lists separating terrorists and the Syrian opposition.

4. A lawyer for the father of an autistic boy who was shot dead by US police officers last week says his client had raised his hands before the shooting. The two police marshals in the state of Louisiana have been charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

5. Several people have been injured as unknown assailants attacked a traffic patrol vehicle in Saudi Arabia's Qatif province. The Interior Ministry described the assault as an act of terror and launched a criminal probe into the incident. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

6. The White House has ruled out the possibility of the so-called two-state solution between Palestinians and Israelis before the end of President Barack Obama's term in office. Obama has always described a two-state solution as the sole way to settle the Israeli-Palestinian issue.

7. The pentagon is to unveil a plan to close the notorious Guantanamo Bay military prison. The plan would detail alternative sites to Guantanamo within the US soil. This comes as the Republican-dominated House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill that bars President Barack Obama from closing the prison.

8. In the United States, President of the University of Missouri steps down in the wake of days of protests over several reports of racial harassment and abuse on the campus. University authorities have also replaced the Chancellor to pacify the outraged students.
