Iran men's national futsal team has fallen victim to European powerhouse Italy in a warm-up match for the 2016 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Championship, which is slated to be held in Uzbekistan early next year.
Even though the Iranian side exhibited a commendable performance throughout the friendly match staged at the Estraforum Hall in the central city of Prato, located 18 kilometers (11 miles) northwest of Florence, on Tuesday evening, it suffered a 0-2 loss to the Italian squad.
Iranian futsal players will return to action on Wednesday as they take on their Italian counterparts in their second friendly encounter.
The national futsall teams of Iran and Italy have played against each other seven times. Iran has emerged triumphant in one match, Italy has chalked up three victories, and three matches have ended up in a draw.
Iran’s national futsal team is getting ready for the 2016 AFC Futsal Championship, which will be the 14th edition of the AFC Futsal Championship.
The tournament will be held in Uzbekistan between February 10 and 21, 2016. A total of 16 teams will play in the continental sporting event.
