Iranian male and female sports shooters have continued their impressive performances at the 8th edition of Asian Airgun Championship in India, and added five more medals to the Islamic Republic’s tally count in the sporting event.
On Wednesday, Iranian squad, comprised of Haniyeh Rostamiyan, La’ya Mohammadi and Honamik Kalantari, finished in the second place at the end of the 10m air pistol women junior contests in the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range of the Indian capital, New Delhi. The hosts claimed the top spot in this category.
Earlier in the day, Iran’s 27-year-old Rostamiyan stole the show in the 10m air pistol women junior competitions and snatched the gold medal. She was followed by anther Iranian sportswoman, Mohammadi, who received the silver.
Iran's Sepehr Safari Boroujeni scored 198.7 points in the final of the men's 10m air pistol competitions on Tuesday to emerge as the gold medalist.
Indian shooters Gurpreet Singh and Jitu Rai clinched silver and bronze medals respectively.
Gurpreet registered 197.6 points to win the silver ahead of Rai, who finished third with a total score of 177.6.
In the 10m air pistol event for youth on Tuesday, Jamal Mousavi from Iran claimed a gold medal with a final score of 200.4.
The silver went to Chao Yi-Chun from Chinese Taipei, who managed 195.9 points. Indian shooter Mohit Gour shot 176.0 to scoop up the bronze in the youth section.
The 8th edition of Asian Airgun Championship opened in New Delhi, India, on September 25 and will finish on October 1, 2015.
A total of 180 male and female sports shooters from 14 Asian countries, including Chinese Taipei, Iran and South Korea, are participating in the four-day competition.
