At least four terror suspects have been killed by security forces during an operation in the Central Asian republic of Kyrgyzstan.

The anti-terror operation was conducted by State Committee of National Security in the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek on Thursday.

Four people were also detained at the end of the operation, which lasted about four hours. Four security forces were also wounded.

The operation was aimed at eliminating “militants from the international terrorist organization who showed armed resistance,” the committee’s press service said.

Rahat Suleymanov, the spokesman of the committee, told Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency that those killed were suspected members of an international terror organization, which he did not identify.

Several reports suggest that the suspects were linked to Takfiri ISIL group, which is currently wreaking havoc on Iraq and Syria.

Over the past few months a number of men and women suspected of recruiting for ISIL have been arrested in Kyrgyzstan.

Reports say some 3,000 citizens from the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a post-Soviet security bloc, have joined the ranks of ISIL militants in Syria.

Earlier in June, Nikolai Bordyuzha, the organization’s chief, said that the ISIL had recruited almost 400 citizens from Kyrgyzstan and around 2,000 people of Russian descent.

According to a recent report by the United Nations, some 25,000 terrorists from more than 100 countries have joined terrorist groups such as ISIL and al-Qaeda-affiliate al-Nusra Front.
