A double-bombing attack has left at least 14 civilians and a Chadian soldier dead in Cameroon's northern town of Fotokol.

A senior Cameroonian military officer announced late Sunday the twin attacks were carried out by suspected Boko Haram militants.

"The attacks targeted a Cameroon special forces camp in the town. The first explosion took place at a bar close to the camp and a second followed some minutes later behind the camp," the officer said, requesting anonymity.

The bombers who conducted the attack were dressed in women’s clothing, military spokesman Didier Badjeck said.

The men detonated themselves late on Sunday as Muslim residents were breaking their daily fast in observance of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.

Boko Haram Takfiri militants have carried out numerous bombings, terrorist operations and militant attacks, not only in the group's birthplace, Nigeria, but also in Cameroon and neighboring Chad, as well as other African nations.

In February, Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger created a joint force to confront the militant group which has been wreaking havoc mainly in northern Nigeria, and across the region, since 2009, killing at least 15,000 people and displacing another 1.5 million.

The name 'Boko Haram' means 'western education is forbidden'. The Takfiri group has allegiance links with the ISIL terrorist group which is carrying out heinous war crimes and crimes against humanity in Syria and Iraq.

Boko Haram claims its main objective is to overthrow the Abuja government and establish its own version of the Islamic rule in Nigeria.
