Golden State beat Cleveland 108-100 in NBA finals game 1

The Golden State Warriors have won the 2015 NBA finals opener with a 108-100 victory over the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers at Oakland’s Oracle Arena.

The Cavaliers have never won a title before, but their superstar forward LeBron James, who has bagged it twice before with the Miami Heat, intended to help his side grab the title for the first time in the history of the club. He scored a finals’ best 44 points on Thursday.

Cleveland was up by 10 points at the end of the first frame and led 29-19.

But the gap was narrowed as the home team partly made up for its first frame deficit with 29 points against the visitors’ 22. Yet, it is trailed 51-48 as it headed to the locker room.

The game was neck and neck as the second half began with the Warriors ending both the third and fourth frames with 25 points. The Cavaliers had 22 and 25 points respectively which resulted a in a 98-98 draw in regulation and sent the game into extra time.

The host did better with its 10 points against the visitors’ 2 and sealed the 108-100 win to raise the hopes for its first title in 40 years.

Game 2 of the best of seven finals series will also be played in Oakland on June 7.
