The United States has warned of a potential threat against "high-end malls" in Amman, the capital city of Jordan, which has been engaged in a US-led coalition against the ISIL Takfiris.
The US Embassy in the Arab country issued a statement on Wednesday, saying, “The threat is judged to be credible although the possible timeframe and type of threat are unknown.”
The embassy called on US nationals to stay away from malls in the country, adding that its own staff had been instructed to do so.
Amman stepped up airstrikes against ISIL positions after the terrorists released a video on February 3, in which 26-year-old Moaz al-Kassasbeh, a Royal Jordanian Air Force pilot, was torched to death.
Jordanian government spokesman Mohammed al-Momani said security measures had been taken after "regional events intensified,” apparently referring to Jordan’s role in the airstrikes.
He did not directly refer to the embassy’s statement but said "countries issue such warnings all the time."
The ISIL terrorists, who were initially trained by the CIA in Jordan in 2012 to destabilize the Syrian government, control parts of territory in Syria and Iraq.
The US and some of its allies have been conducting airstrikes against what they claim to be the ISIL targets in Iraq and Syria since last year.
