World number two Rafael Nadal has booked his spot in the ATP Mexico Open final with a dominant straight sets win over Grigor Dimitrov.
Both players traded early service holds but it was Nadal who surged back from first losing serve to take the opener 6-3. The 33-year-old Spaniard also had a slow start to the second set after surrendering serve in the second game.
However, he once again stormed back to break the 22nd-ranked Bulgarian three times and clinch the set 6-2 on his first match point. Nadal, who remains on course for his third Mexican title, has only lost 20 games in his first four matches this week and is yet to lose a set.
Nadal will be the favorite to claim the Acapulco title when he faces unseeded Taylor Fritz in the final. The 22-year-old American faced a much more demanding challenge in the other semifinal against his compatriot John Isner.
Midway through the second set Isner was cruising 6-2, 4-2 with three breakpoint opportunities and Fritz was simply hoping for a respectable scoreline.
However, a stunning reversal saw Fritz snatch the second set 7-5 and wrap up the contest in an hour and 43 minutes with a 6-3 win. The outstanding turnaround means Fritz will be heading to his first ever ATP 500 final and his first ever meeting with Nadal.
