Iran’s Rezvani wins silver in Armenia wushu championships

Iranian wushu practitioner Mojtaba Rezvani

Iranian wushu practitioner Mojtaba Rezvani has picked up a silver medal at the 2016 International Eurasian Tournament in Armenia.

The Iranian athlete recorded impressive victories in his march to the final at Dinamo Sports Arena in the Armenian capital city of Yerevan, and finished as vice champion in the men’s up-to-90-kilogram category of the Sanda section.

Sanda - sometimes called Sanshou or Lei tai - is a fighting method in wushu which is influenced by traditional Chinese boxing, Chinese Shuai jiao wrestling methods and other Chinese grappling techniques.

The sport appears much like kickboxing or Muay Thai, but includes many more grappling techniques.

The 2016 International Eurasian Tournament started in Yerevan, Armenia, on March 3, and wrapped up on March 6. More than 200 athletes from 12 countries, including Armenia, Iran and Turkmenistan, took part in the tournament.
