Reformist politician Mohsen Mehr-Alizadeh formerly served as vice president and head of the National Sports Organization of Iran under ex-President Seyyed Mohammad Khatami.
During Khatami’s terms, Mehr-Alizadeh was also governor of Iran’s Isfahan and Khorasan Provinces.
The politician unsuccessfully contested the 2005 presidential election, ranking last among the seven candidates.
Born in 1956 in the city of Maragheh, East Azarbaijan Province, Mehr-Alizadeh has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s in applied mechanics and a Ph.D. in economic engineering.
‘An administration with a political, social plan based on justice’
Speaking in an interview with ISNA, Mehr-Alizadeh said he has drawn up a “long-term political, and social plan based on justice” for governing the country.
“In the first place, a precise plan is needed to end the political crisis and [bring about] sustainable economic growth while fulfilling the interests of the people, and not at the expense of people being trampled on,” the politician said.
He added that his short- and mid-term agenda, if elected, would revolve around improving the people’s livelihoods, overcoming the obstacles in the way of production and exports, creating at least one million jobs, providing more health services, and fighting corruption, among other things.
