Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein says Iraq will never be a launchpad for strikes and acts of military aggression against neighboring countries.
“We will not allow the Iraqi territory to be a launchpad for threatening neighboring countries,” Hussein said on Thursday.
Back on October 13, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid said his country was against the use of its territory as a “launchpad” for attacks against neighboring countries, including Iran.
He said Iraq also rejects any violation or aggression against its cities and villages.
Rashid made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Baghdad in reaction to Israel's rhetoric about a possible response to the Islamic Republic's recent missile attack against the regime.
The Islamic Republic launched some 200 missiles at the Israeli entity’s military, and espionage and intelligence bases all over the occupied territories on October 1 as part of Operation True Promise II.
Flares and missiles were seen in the Tel Aviv sky and explosions could be heard in the occupied al-Quds, while “direct hits” were reported in Negev, Sharon, and other locations.
The operation came in response to the regime’s assassinations of Hamas’s political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Hezbollah’s leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and high-ranking Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) commander Abbas Nilforoushan.
