The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the racist statements by the Israeli finance minister Bezalel Smotrich.

The firebrand Zionist official said on Monday that he "issued instructions to impose sovereignty on the West Bank."

Speaking at the Knesset, Smotrich, who is in charge of the settlements, said he ordered preparations for the annexation of the illegal settlements in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

He told parliamentarians he had instructed his department to “prepare the necessary infrastructure for applying sovereignty.”

US President-elect Donald Trump’s victory this month in the 2024 US presidential election is "an important opportunity" for Israelis, Smotrich said.

The remarks by the far-right finance minister regarding the annexation of the occupied West Bank were met with widespread outrage.

The OIC on Tuesday emphasized that the Israeli occupation and its policies of aggression, settlement, displacement, annexation, destruction, and ethnic cleansing are illegal and invalid under international law.

The organization also sounded the alarm about the magnitude of the continuous incitement and organized terrorism carried out by the Israeli occupation leaders and extremist settlers against the Palestinian people, their land, and holy sites.

The OIC called on the international community to recognize the State of Palestine and support its full membership in the United Nations.

It further called for decisive action to end Israel’s illegal occupation and settlements in Palestinian territories, in line with the two-state solution, international law, the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the illegality of the Israeli occupation, and relevant UN General Assembly resolutions.
