Dieter Reinisch is a journalist based in Vienna, Austria. For several years, he has covered major political, social and cultural events in Austria, Germany, Ireland, and Great Britain international media outlets. His writings appeared in the Washington Post, Neue Zuericher Zeitung (Switzerland), Belfast Telegraph, Irish News, Irish Examiner, Times Higher Education, RTÉ (Ireland), Village Magazine (Ireland), ORF (Austria), Profil (Austria), Der Standard (Austria), Die Presse (Austria), Die Furche (Austria), Neues Deutschland (Germany), among others. He also works as an Austria, Ireland, and UK correspondent for the German newspaper Junge Welt. For Die Furche and Neues Deutschland, he reported from Lebanon.
His radio programmes and expert interviews were aired on the Austrian public radio oe1, Radio Orange, and the German public radios RBB, WDR and DLF-Kultur. In addition, he worked as a consultant and expert on Irish politics for BBC and Deutsche Welle.
He is a member of the National Union of Journalists (UK & Ireland), the Austrian Journalists Association, and the Presseclub Concordia (Austria).
Dieter holds a PhD in Contemporary History from Europe’s leading research institute, the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. He also holds a Master of Research (MRes) from the same institution and a Magister from the University of Vienna.
After defending his PhD, he has conducted research at several leading academic institutions, such as the University of St. Andrews, Ulster University in Belfast, University of Vienna, Central European University in Budapest, and Ruhr University in Bochum. Before joining Press TV, he led a research project on social movements at the School of Political Science and Sociology at the University of Galway, Ireland.
He was twice awarded the prestigious „Seal of Excellence“ from the European Commission in Brussels for his academic research and publications in 2021 and 2022. He has also been awarded the titles „Fellow of the Royal Historical Society“ (FRHistS) and „Fellow of the Higher Education Academy“ (FHEA) in the UK.
He teaches International Relations and History at Webster University, St. Louis/Vienna, and supervises Master students in Urban Studies at the University of Applied Sciences Campus Vienna.
Dieter is the author of eight books about contemporary history and politics of Europe, such as „Learning behind Bars: How IRA Prisoners Shaped the Peace Process in Ireland“ (University of Toronto Press, 2022), „Irish Republican Counterpublic: Armed Struggle and the Construction of a Radical Nationalist Community in Northern Ireland, 1969-1998 (Routledge, 2023), and „Terror: A History of Political Violence“ (Promedia, 2022).
During his career, Dieter has lived and worked in Ireland, Germany, Italy, Scotland, and Hungary.
