Zimbabwe imposes hunting restriction after iconic lion's killing
Zimbabwe announces restrictions on hunting around the country’s biggest game reserve following the killing of a much-loved lion by a US dentist.
Wildlife authorities say they will not hesitate to arrest, prosecute, and ban for life those who violate the law. The crackdown comes after a lion, named Cecil, was shot with a bow and arrow by U-S dentist Walter Palmer outside Hwange Park on first of July. The lion’s death has sparked a global outcry, with almost 500-thousand people demanding the American hunter’s extradition. This is while Zimbabwean authorities expressed sadness and disgust over the allegedly illegal hunting of Cecil’s brother. They say they also received information about the possibly illegal killing of another lion in April. Officials confirm that an arrest has been made in that case.
