The United Nations (UN) says Mozambique has rescued a number of children who had been abducted by the al-Shabab terrorist group to be forcefully recruited as child soldiers.

The Pentagon says it has conducted airstrikes against the al-Shabab militant group in Somalia, despite limits put in place by the US President Joe Biden administration on attacks outside active war zones.

At least 30 people have been killed when Somalia's al-Shabab militant group launched an attack in a town in the state of Galmudug, a security official said.

A car packed with explosives rammed into a popular restaurant in Somalia's capital, and police said at least 10 people were killed and more than 30 wounded.

Several people are killed and many others injured after a powerful car bomb explosion near the Somali presidential palace in the capital Mogadishu.

Those killed were bodyguards of former lawmakers.
