The US administration has announced three gestures toward Iran in an apparent break with former president Donald Trump’s “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran. Iran however has stated that is does not even come close to its demand that all sanctions be lifted.

The Iranian administration says the new White House team should avoid a selective approach in making up for the “stain of shame” it will inherit from its predecessor.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres underlines the need for preserving the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, urging world countries to engage in trade ties with Tehran based on Security Council Resolution 2231.

China says the removal of the UN arms embargo against Iran, which was clearly stipulated in Resolution 2231, should be “faithfully implemented.”

Government spokesman Ali Rabiei hails the lifting of the UN arms embargo on Iran as an “achievement,” saying it shows that the country adopted a “correct policy” when it chose to stay in the 2015 nuclear deal following the US pullout.
