Nigerian security forces have attacked a popular rally of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky's supporters in Abuja.

Nigerian people have demanded the immediate release of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky during protest rallies in Abuja held on the fifth anniversary of the Zaria massacre.

On December 2, 2016, the Federal High Court in Abuja handed down its ruling ordering the release of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and his wife Zeenat.

Sheikh Zakzaky’s trial continued in a Kaduna State High Court in Northern Nigeria with the presentation of two prosecution witnesses.

A Shia group affiliated with the Islamic Movement in Nigeria has expressed concern about the worsening health conditions of prominent cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and his wife.

Members of the Islamic Movement announced at a press conference that their leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky health condition has continued to deteriorate because of the injuries he sustained during the December 2015 Massacre in Zaria.

The trial of leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky has been adjourned until September when the court will deliver a final ruling on an application asking it to dismiss all the charges and set the Islamic cleric free.
