Iran has denounced in the strongest terms the “brutal massacre” by Israel of civilians across the besieged Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said in a statement issued on Monday that the destruction of vital infrastructure, attacks on health facilities, obstruction of humanitarian aid and essential supplies, and imposing a full blockade on Gaza by cutting off water and electricity constitute “clear instances of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity” that must be prosecuted.

He cited numerous recent reports by the UN and international aid organizations, including the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, the Independent International Commission of Inquiry, Doctors Without Borders, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Referring to recent statements by the UN Secretary-General regarding the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, the spokesman said the defenseless people of Gaza, particularly women and children, are subjected to intensive bombardment, widespread hunger, disease, forced displacement, and systematic destruction daily.

Baghaei also warned that the deliberate targeting and killing of aid workers and journalists aim to silence the voice of Gaza.

While expressing appreciation for institutions, media outlets, and activists working to raise awareness on Israel’s ongoing genocidal adventure in Gaza, the Iranian diplomat said the atrocities are carried out with the intention of ethnic cleansing and extermination of the Palestinian nation.

He called on all governments and international organizations, especially the UN Security Council, to take “decisive and immediate action to halt the ongoing genocide and massacre of innocent civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, and to facilitate the prosecution and punishment of the perpetrators of these horrific crimes.”
